Trump: "I think the ceasefire is unlimited. It's going to go forever."

Here goes...

1. DHS officers beat and pepper spray Narciso Barranco, a father of three United States Marines. They pinned him on the ground and beat him, then put him in an unmarked vehicle and drove away. (NPR, NBC News). Again – NOT THE VIOLENT CRIMINAL they told us they’d go after. AND, HOW IS ANYONE ON THE STREET SUPPOSED TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ICE AGENT, A TERRORIST, OR A SERIAL KILLER NABBING HIS NEXT VICTIM. YES, I’M YELLING. This insane.

Seriously, which one is the masked terrorist and which one is the ICE agent?

2. After Trump bombed Iran Tom Homan “Border Czar” said there could be 2 million Iranians in sleeper cells in the US. (Fox News) Really Tom? Really? Then why are we spending such vast resources deporting gardeners and farm workers? Zero terrorist attacks by Latino folks in the US. (Also, there are not 2 million Iranians in sleeper cells in the US. That is just dumb.)

3. Just minutes after Trump declared a “complete and total ceasefire,” Baghdad got bombed and Israel unleashed its largest wave of airstrikes on Iran yet. While this was happening Trump was asked how long the ceasefire would be, President Trump said, "I think the ceasefire is unlimited. It's going to go forever." (Yahoo News, ABC News)

When Trump was told the “forever” ceasefire didn’t even start he says, on camera “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing. Do you understand that?” (ABC, NBC News, Reuters)

Then Trump's mini-me, JD Vance (you know, the Vice President of the United States of America), tried to show everyone he's a badass too by flipping the bird during a joke he told at an Ohio event. No I'm not kidding. (Yahoo)

4. The US State Department announced they will NOT help evacuate the 25,000 Americans that are in Iran. Leaving them to attempt evacuation on their own.(Reuters, CBS News)

5. This week’s supreme Court Rulings are an utter disaster. Immigrants can now be legally deported to countries they are not from – so, you know, gulags in El Salvador. The birthright citizenship ruling is more about judges making nationwide injunctions, than birthright citizenship but for both issue, it’s a disaster. Ellie Mystal from The Nation Magazine explains it well here. As does Pema Levy from Rolling Stone.

But Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s dissent is truly ominous (starting page 98). “"It is not difficult to predict how this all ends. Eventually, executive power will become completely uncontainable, and our beloved constitutional Republic will be no more."

6. In the Russel Senate Office building Medicaid activists in wheelchairs – terrified of losing their healthcare - were arrested by Capitol police for staging a sit in. Their banner was snatched and their wrists tied with zip ties.(Newsweek, Scripps News)

Also, don’t worry because Mitch McConnell says people will just get over it when they cut Medicaid. (Newsweek, MSNBC News)

7. Back to Elon Musk - Essentially - he tried to buy the presidency, used DOGE to kill investigations into he and his businesses, gave himself billions in govt contracts, found no waste, then checked out. (Economic Policy Institute, LA Times, NY Times)

8. Zohran Mamdani’s landslide win against Cuomo in the NY mayoral primary has really brought out the Islamaphobes on social media. (Reuters, Anti-Defamation League, NY Times) I’m seeing a lot of utterly stupid comments like this: “ISLAMIC STATE OF NEW YORK CITY! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY TO IMPOSE SHARIA LAW TO ALL NY CITIZENS. (sigh)

9. Pete - national security calamity – Kegseth, I mean Hegseth, yelled continually at the press conference about the Iran bombing stuff like - "President Trump directed the most complex and secretive military operation in history, and it was a resounding success!" (ABC News, USA Today) This, after intelligence reports concluded we didn’t destroy Iran’s nuclear capability.

I would like he and Jim Jordan to understand that yelling and gyrating doesn’t give their stupid points any more validity. I’m reminded of this lawyer adage – "If you have the facts on your side, pound the facts; if you have the law on your side, pound the law; if you have neither the facts nor the law, pound the table."

Also, I started a new drinking game for whenever Trump says “obliterated” when talking about Iran’s nuclear program.

10. HHS Secretary Robert – Brainworm - Kennedy Jr. was shredded by Rep Kim Shrier, from Washington (pediatrician) on vaccines and it was glorious. But no one saw it because the nightly news is obsessed with a white woman who ran over her husband.

11. The embarrassingly stupidly “Big Beautiful Bill” passed. It includes almost a trillion in cuts to Medicaid (trillion with a “T”.) in order to give massive tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy. It also adds 4 trillion to the debt. It’s an absolute catastrophe. 15 million people are likely to lose their healthcare. (Nasdaq, The Century Foundation, Economic Policy Institute). Massive cuts to SNAP (food for the poor) will blow giant holes in State budgets. (The Commonwealth Institute) Poverty and food insecurity will rise dramatically. The crazy thing is the red states will suffer most, but the Fox News propaganda machine has them cheering the “win”.

12. This week was pretty much ALL bad. The Supreme Court and Rs in congress are killing our democracy and frankly, are going to kill a lot of Americans by depriving them of healthcare, ignoring vaccine experts, and poisoning our air and water. My apologies, but all I have to offer to counter that is cute animal videos.

As always, in the words of Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton, “So what did I miss?”
