Here goes...
1. No civilized society puts human beings in the Everglades and guards them with alligators. The other side thinks it’s funny. They are selling merch.(Fast Company, The Independent.) By “they” I mean actual lawmakers in Florida. I’m not giving it too much air because the reason they think it is funny is because they know we are appalled and “owning the libs” is awesome and retaining your humanity is “woke” I guess.
2. Trump’s justice department issues directive to strip naturalized Americans of citizenship for civil offenses. (WaPo, CNN, The Guardian). Never believe them again when they say they support coming to our country “the right way” and that only violent criminals are being deportred.
3. A 75-year-old Cuban national died in lCE custody. He had lived in the U.S. for 60 years. (CBS News, Miami Herald). But don’t worry folks because Border Czar Tom Homan says: "People die in lCE custody. People die in county jails. People die in state prisons." Okay.
4. The President of the United States of America is selling perfume on social media. (Yahoo News, ABC News) You’ll be excited to learn it comes with a gold statue of Trump. No, I am not kidding.
5. Firefighters in Idaho were ambushed and 2 were killed by a right wing nut job in Idaho. (AP News, NBC News) Firefighters. The guy killed firefighters.
6. Republicans have included 300 MILLION in the budget for Trump's golf trips, but no money for FEMA. (MSN) Also, they are throwing millions of people off of their healthcare. The are even cutting the Boys and Girls club. Oh, and there are actual tax breaks for gun silencers. (Politico, The Hill, ABC, CNN, Reuters)
7. The President of the United States of America posted this about Dem, representative and recent cancer survivor.
8. Picture of Republican Christians praying that a bill will pass that will kick 13 million off of their healthcare, take food from poor kids, add 3.4 trillion to the deficit, all so they can give huge tax breaks to the rich. Oh, and make it easier for Americans to shoot each other. I can’t make sense of our world anymore.
9. In a Fox News poll (yes Fox News) 59% of registered voters said they opposed the massive and embarrassingly named Big Beautiful Bill and 38% said they favored it. So of course, Trump said this bill was the most popular in the history of the world.
10. Didn’t happen this week but I keep going back to it. Trump kept saying this during the campaign, “Trump said: "Christians, get out and vote, just this time. "You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians."
11. He added: "I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote," Trump said.
And of course there was this the day before inauguration.
12. This bill will result in ICE’s budget being bigger than the military budgets of five countries (Italy’s Israel’s, Netherland’s, Brazil’s and Switzerland’s). It will also exceed the US Marine Corps’ entire military budget. It will hire twenty times more ICA agents than we have now. (MSN, Newsweek) This is serious shit. Trump just created his own gestapo. They are already disappearing people. I’m not overreacting. Not once in the last ten years have I overreacted to Trump’s moves. It almost always is even worse than I think it will be. As a country we have been underreacting for ten years.
13. EPA suspends and is investigating around 140 employees who signed a letter critical of the agency. (NYT, The AP, CBS News)
14. Trump on Democrats at a speech this week (you know, to kick off the Independence weekend): "They hate Trump. But I hate them too. I really do. I hate them." (Yahoo, MSN) The President of the United States of America just said he hates over half of the country.
