"Sanctity of marriage" y'all

Ginger

Here goes...

1. Trump is tapping another Eastern Washington conspiracy theorist, this time for US Attorney, Pete Serrano. (thank you for the tip, subscriber K.G.) Pete is incompetent and completely unfit for the role. He’s a gun nut (hey, I have guns. I like guns. It’s entirely possible to like guns, own guns, but not be a gun nut who thinks the 2nd amendment means there should be no rules, or that you should strap on an AR15 to go to Walmart, or that shot up kindergarteners who have to be identified by DNA is the price of freedom) and he is a COVID conspiracy theorist, and thinks that the J6 rioters are political prisoners. (Washington State Standard)

Here is what these “political prisoners” that Trump PARDONED did to an Capitol Officer on J6 (over 140 cops were injured that day - all perpetrators were pardoned).

2. Trump is sending the National Guard into Washington DC because the DOGE dipshit (Edward Coristine ) whose nickname is (sorry mom) “Big Balls” got beat up by some teenagers, even though the crime rate in DC is at a 30-year low. Look, I am not minimizing the assault on (ehem) Big Balls (well, I might have been a little), but there is absolutely no reason to federalize DC when the crime rate is at a 30 year low. But Trump will just say the numbers are “rigged” and his supporter will believe him. One step closer to Martial Law.

3. Kim Davis, the former Kentucky county clerk (meaning WORKS FOR THE PEOPLE) who was jailed for six days in 2015 after refusing to issue marriage licenses to a gay couple on religious grounds, is appealing a $100,000 jury verdict for emotional damages plus $260,000 for attorneys fees.” She has also petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn marriage equality. (ABC News, Newsweek) As you may imagine, I have a lot to say about this woman, Republican Christians, people who support this – but honestly right now I am too upset. Suffice it to say that I love my spouse and that my marriage means as much to me as yours does to you (maybe more given the how we’ve had to fight for it). 35 years together, 10 years married (because of the change in the law – which was glorious for us).

By the way Kim Davis is on her fourth marriage. (Yahoo News, Newsweek). Sanctity of marriage and all. Honestly though, I don’t care that she is on her 4th marriage, because it is none of my business (you see how easy that is? It’s none of my business. We need to let people be. Your interpretation of your religion should govern how YOU live – not everyone else else.)

Happiest day of my life. (The handsome guy in the middle is my Uncle Rod, our officiant.)

4. Trump while talking about crime in DC says Democrats “want transgender for everybody. Everybody transgender.” I mean….wut?

5. Trump’s economy, by the numbers: July’s inflation spike was the largest in 6 months. Layoffs just hit their highest level since the pandemic. Manufacturing saw the biggest decline in years. Rs in Congress have basically given up on manufacturing. “Claims from congressional Republicans and the Trump administration that supporting domestic manufacturing is a priority are completely undercut by their efforts to strip incentives and kill successful programs. “ (Center for American Progress, David Pacman, Newsweek, CBS News, USA Today, CNN)

6. Right Wing craziness : “Christian nationalist pastor Joel Webbon says America is under the "curse of feminism" and God will not bless the nation until women are forced out of all positions of leadership: "No more women in Congress. No more female state reps. No more women in any function of societal leadership." Look, I’m just saying – it’s not like the dudes haven done such a bang-up job so far. I mean please name the wars that were started by women. Or the number of women that are serial killers. Or the percentage of men who commit sexual assault vs the number of women. I could go on…

7. More ICE BS: An American citizen (graduate of Cal Poly, Pomona), Andrea Velez, was cuffed, thrown in an ICE van, and held for 2 days without water. They did not have ICE vests, they did not identify themselves, they did not present a warrant, their cars did not have license plates(!). (CBS News, NBC News) She proved her legal status, and they still kept her locked up. If you read this blog you know that this is NOT an isolated incident and as always it’s happening to brown people with Latin sounding names, not white ladies like me named Ginger.

8. A direct quote from Trump this week: You know, grass has a lifetime like people have a lifetime, and the lifetime of this grass has long been gone. When you look at the parks where the grass is all tired, exhausted. We're going to redo the grass with the finest grasses. I know a lot about grass.”

9. Trump Jr. (the son of the president of the United States of America) shared this on social media. It depicts Trump throwing a sex toy at female athletes. Yes. He actually posted that.

As of August 8, over 400,000 people had shared it.

Apparently there has been a rash of this actually happening at WNBA games – the tossing of sex toys on the court. Trump Jr thinks it’s hilarious. Decent leaders would try to put a stop to it, not eg people on. But this guy kills African lions and cheetahs for fun so we know he is vile.

10. Trump just gutted the office that fights human trafficking. (PBS, People.com, Esquire). Trump has gone from campaigning on definitely (definitely, we really mean it) releasing the Epstein files and crusading against human trafficking - which his base is obsessed with, to calling his supporters stupid and foolish for not letting it go and giving Ghislaine Maxwell cushy new digs (she’ll absolutely be pardoned next for lying about Trump and Epstein – do I have to bring up the Katie Johnson affidavit again? Because I never want to think about that again).

11. I realize my blog is one long list of horribleness and continuing to read it may make you want to walk in front of oncoming traffic (sorry about that), so let me toss this guy into the mix. He always has really good news to report. Good news is good, people.

12. From Dan Rather: "The guy taking over the DC police to "protect" federal buildings is the same guy who incited a mob to attack the US Capitol." You know the rest of the world thinks we’ve lost our ever-loving minds, right?

13. The Dems are going to lose the gerrymandering fight in Texas. Folks, gerrymandering is cheating. I realize no one cares anymore about things like that anymore (you know, like how traveling is still in the basketball rule books but refs never call it – don’t get me started on that, and yes I realize these two things don’t compare in significance, but still, don’t get me started – anyway…). It is cheating. Politicians pick their voters instead of the other way around. Sometimes the concept is hard to understand, here is a good explanation. Neither side should do it. I do have to point out that in 2021, every Dem in congress voted to ban gerrymandering and every R voted against.

14. A white lady told Trump the exhibits in the National Museum of African American History made her uncomfortable (oh no, the white lady is uncomfortable!). So, he told her to “fix” it. She has NO EXPERIENCE as a historian but will be deciding what is "appropriate" at the National Museum of AFRICAN AMERICAN History and Culture. She (Lindsey Halligan) is a former model though, so it’s fine. (WAPO – sorry about the paywall)

15. Well obviously, the US is teaching slavery all wrong. I mean, why so negative? (you can’t make this shit up). Don’t make me talk about why slavery was actually really bad (I just read an article about how some leather was made back in the day – I’ll say no more), or how much progress we have made when we have for profit prisons, mass incarceration (which often provides “slave labor”, and guess what, it’s constitutional. I know, you are probably saying well, they are in prison, why shouldn’t they work for free? Because there is so much evidence of blatant exploitation of black males. I’ll write an essay about this at some point…) or, when a cop can put his knee on the neck of a black man for 9 minutes while the black man tells him he can’t breathe, then goes ahead and dies (it’s all on video), and way too many people think the cop did nothing wrong and should be pardoned.

16. As of July 31, 2025, 446 large U.S. companies have filed for bankruptcy, the highest total for that seven-month period in 15 years. This figure, based on data from S&P Global Market Intelligence and the Kobeissi Letter. (Newsweek, MSN)

17. More ICE BS: NBC is reporting ICE deported a four-year-old with stage-four kidney cancer to Honduras despite him being an American citizen. (NBC News, The Guardian, Newsweek, Yahoo.com)

18. Trump advisor Peter Navarro says that the "Majority of tariffs will target generic pharmaceutical products". (CNBC) No more $35 insulin, and now the price of generic drugs will increase. Republicans act as though only the wealthy should have healthcare. You can’t really argue this point. Every single one of their efforts on the subject of healthcare either throw (poor, elderly, or sick) people off of their healthcare plans or make prescriptions more expensive. Is there any documented example of Republicans making it so MORE people have access to healthcare? Please, this is a challenge. I’ll wait…

19. Border Czar Tom Homan: “President Trump doesn’t have a limitation on his authority to make this country safe. There’s no limitation.” (C-SPAN) No one in Trumps Administration passed high school civics. No one. Oh, and this attitude is just more evidence of their desire to live in an authoritarian regime (but only if Trump is the authoritarian).

20. Trump: "Mexico does what we tell them to do, and Canada does what we tell them to do." (snort – have you met the President of Mexico?)

21. Trump Literally rolled out the red carpet for Putin and clapped like a trained seal when he arrived. Well, actually he had our troops roll out that carpet for Putin. Your friendly reminder that Putin is a brutal, murderous, dictator (it seems like people should not have to be reminded of this). (The AP, BBC, WSJ)

22. On February 6, 2024, Kristi – puppy killer – Noem posted this: “If Joe Biden federalizes the National Guard, that would be a direct attack on states' rights.” Trump just sent the National Guard into 19 states to “assist with immigration enforcement” (that’s not why folks, but that is what they are saying). (The BBC, CNN, News Nation, The Independent, The Pentagon) You know, states like Wyoming because of all of the illegal border crossings…

23. Trump, who endlessly criticized Biden’s infrastructure sending is replacing Biden’s name with his on the infrastructure project signs.

24. One rather hilarious development in the last week is Gavin Newsom mocking Trump’s childish and stupid social media posts by creating Trumpian-style childish and stupid social media posts, while Trump supporters call NEWSOME childish and stupid. This is my favorite thing this week.

As always, in the words of Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton, “So what did I miss?
