"National security threat."
Ginger

Here goes...
1. Donald Trump calls for the prosecution of Kamala Harris. BTW, absolutely nothing in this post is true.
2. Nancy Mace (R congresswoman, South Carolina): “One of my favorite things to watch on YouTube these days are the court hearings where illegals are in court and ICE shows up to drag them out of court and deport them. I can think of nothing more American…” A reminder of what this actually looks and sounds like. Look friends, now we truly understand how the holocaust was possible. Gleeful dehumanization is a dark but absolutely real thing.
3. The Venezuelan little league baseball team was denied visas into the US and will not be allowed to compete in the Little League World Series. They are a national security threat apparently. (CNN, The AP, MSNBC)) I hate it here.
4. Trump’s gift jet from Qatar is not going to cost $400,000 (as Trump said) to renovate, it’s going to cost 1 billion. Trump and donors are NOT paying for it (as Trump said), the money is coming from the Pentagon. (Forbes) Also, MAGA keep trying to claim that Trump is donating the jet to the military when he said himself that the damn thing would be donated to his presidential house of horrors – I mean library. And I guarantee you, he’s not doing that either. He’s going to use that gilded flying palace as his personal jet until he dies (I’m really trying not to say “which couldn’t come soon enough”, but dammit, this is the full-snark edition of my blog).
5. Justice Department had to DROP a bunch of cases against LA protestors because US Immigration officers and border patrol got caught LYING and making FALSE STATEMENTS. No surprise to anyone living in LA. (The Guardian, LA Times, The New Republic)
6. Just a friendly reminder that Putin actually admitted in front of the world that he tried to help Trump win the 2016 election. And Trump supporters still call the claims a hoax or do their best Jan Brady impersonation and whine “Russia, Russia, Russia”. BTW the Mueller report, and the republican led senate committee also confirmed this. (Congress.gov, PBS, Lawfarw, com) But Fox News won’t report it so Trump supports wouldn’t know.
7. A quick blast from the past – remember at Biden’s last State of the Union address when he warned us that Republicans would cut Medicaid and Medicare, and always classy MTG and Boebert stood and booed, and Mike Lee shouted “liar”, and all of the Republicans shouted loudly their indignation by the accusation? Good times. Good times.
Well, you know by now that every single Republican voted to cut Medicare and food assistance for the poor (SNAP) and undermine Medicaid. (Medicare Rights Center, Center for Economic Policy, Georgetown University) Oh, and all to fund tax cuts for the super-rich.
Why on earth do Republicans vote against their own interest? Because Republican leaders tell them things like - biological males are dressings as females and invading women’s bathrooms, and Dems are behind it. Or that children are identifying as cats and teachers are encouraging it by having litter boxes in the classroom. They’ve been incredibly successful at scaring the beegeezus out of their constituents for generations (in the sixties it was The Southern Strategy. In the 80s it was Guns God and Gays – it’s always the gays. Sorry guys.). So much so that they’ll sacrifice their own healthcare, cancer research, affordable medications, clean air and water, education, agree to transfer all middle-class wealth to the rich, etc. by voting republican. Or they are ghoulish racists taking glee in the pain of brown people (like the folks cheering on ICE). Republicans in leadership must just laugh their asses off when they go home. Yes, I’m extra, extra, snarky this week. That Nancy Mace comment is one of the ugliest things I’ve ever heard spoken – and with such white supremacist arrogance and glee. Okay, okay, I digress…
8. The Trump administration has released a memo allowing FEDERAL WORKERS to proselytize their coworkers and assert that their religion is 'correct.' (CBS News, The Hill). This is not an effort to support “freedom of speech”. It’s Trump being a dick for no reason other than to be a dick. This is a great article about our Founding Fathers and their ideas about government and religion. A quote from the article here: “The genius of the founding fathers is they understood that Christianity could not only stand on its own but would thrive without being written into the laws and founding documents of the country.” And this, and this.
9. From Tim Weiner on Threads: “His apartment is not 30,000 sq. ft.; it’s about 10,000. We did not give $60 million in food aid to Gaza; we gave $30 million (and most has not been distributed). Gas is not $1.99; it’s over $3.00. Foreign countries have not invested $16 trillion in America; the whole entire economy is only about $30 trillion. And we’re not going to cut drug prices 1500% because it’s not mathematically possible.” (every news outlet in the damn world except Fox)
10. Trump, this week “I stopped 6 wars, I’m averaging about a war a month. Including wars that lasted 500 years.” Karoline Leavitt thinks he should get the Nobel Peace Prize. He said on Newsmax, and I quote, “"We're settled -- a lot of very beautiful wars have been settled." Beautiful. Wut?
No. Just no. There is no time to go into all of this but in the case of Congo and Rwanda, he got people to sign a peace agreement that no one is following. And basically, what he is after is strategic mineral reserves. (BBC)
11. Republicans in Florida are having a – I kid you not – back to school gun sale. DeSantis: "From September 8-31st, ALL firearms, munitions, accoutrements, as well as things like bows and arrows, are tax FREE! That's gonna save some folks a lot of money."
12. Remember when Republicans thought student loan forgiveness was bad? Guess who they are giving to now? Teachers? No! Nurses? No!, Fire fighters? No!. ICE agents, that’s who.
13. And while we are talking again about ICE, A young man was detained and beaten by ICE agents just moments after a judge EXTENDED his legal right to live in the United States. I wonder if patriot Nancy Mace got to watch the super fun and “most American” video. Maybe she had popcorn and some Good and Plenty.
14. As you know Trump, who campaigned on releasing the Epstein files, doesn’t actually want them released. He called his own supporters weak and stupid for not letting go of it. If you actually read any of the affidavits from the victims, particularly Katie Johnson (a fake name because she feared for her life) you would understand why. Here is one if you must, but I’ve read it so you don’t have to (she names Trump and describes what he did to her). Seriously, it’s brutal. You would be forgiven for just taking my word for it on this. These women are not making this shit up. One, Virginia Giuffre, committed suicide.
There is no doubt at this point that Ghislaine Maxwell s going to get a pardon in exchange for saying Trump was not involved. If I am wrong I’ll owe you a beer.
15. Under White House pressure, the Smithsonian removed Trump from the impeachment exhibit. The Smithsonian is now saying only three presidents “seriously” faced removal. (pretty much all news outlets. Even Fox.) Only Dictators try to erase history. We’ve all read Orwell.
16. 200 million for a new gilded ballroom at the White House while taking away healthcare and food for the poor. (NBC News, The Hill, ABC News, CNN, etc, etc). Good God stop the world, I want to get off.
17. Trump didn’t like the jobs report, so instead of figuring out how to create jobs he…um… (checks notes) fires the gal who reported the stats, the US Chief of Labor Statistics. (Uncle Rod, CNN, NYT) “I think their numbers were wrong” Trump said. (PBS – no wonder they defunded PBS). Trump “thinks” the stats were wrong. Like, huh? “So, you know what I did? I fired her. And you know, what? I did the right thing,” says Trump. Sure, because a pretend world is just so much nicer than this stupid reality thing (admittedly though, given the circumstances, maybe that’s right). How exactly would he know – except from the people in charge of tracking the stats? Once again, straight up, in your face, dictator (and delusional and narcissistic) behavior. But he truly does like the thoughts in his own head best, regardless of how asinine.
18. Here is a good question from Lindsy on Threads: “How many times can someone claim things are "rigged" "trying to make me look bad" "stolen" "a hoax" before you think "Maybe this guy just is terrible and he's a whining loser?"
19. HOLY SMOKES DO I NEED A TIMELINE CLEANSE. And a stiff drink.
As always, in the words of Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton, “So what did I miss?”
