"I have the right to do anything I want to do. I'm the president of the United States."

Here goes...
1. From Chase Kliber on Threads: “So, so far this week we've lost the CDC, had another school shooting, got caught trying to destabilize Denmark/Greenland relations, had a bunch of other countries suspend our mail service, saw the National Guard issued guns in our capitol, had our president threaten to invade nineteen other states, and then had that same fuckwit repeatedly insist that the American people want a dictator so... this is about how we thought this would go, right?” I cannot disagree.
2. Trump says out loud that he wants to suppress the vote so Democrats don’t win. 1, They know that if everyone votes Rs don’t win. All of their policies poll terribly. To be fair, all Rs know this which is why they try to suppress the vote in every red state. 2. Mail in voting is absolutely the most secure way to vote. (He has a slip of the tongue in the middle, but it’s clear by the rest of the comment what he meant.)
3. Newsom, who is trolling Trump like a boss, tweeted that his “bible sold out” (snort) and MAGA went crazy thinking Dems are mocking the bible or hate Christianity (all over social media). Do they really not remember Trump SELLING “TRUMP BIBLES” – WITH TRUMPS NAME PRINTED ON THE FRONT?? He had his damn name printed on THE BIBLE and MADE MONEY from of it.
ORDER NOW!
What continues to also be hilarious is that MAGA simply don’t understand what Newsom is doing with his trolling of Trump. As noted last week - Gavin Newsom is mocking Trump’s childish and stupid social media posts by creating Trumpian-style childish and stupid social media posts, while Trump supporters call NEWSOM childish and stupid.

4. Epstein (and Trump) survivors are planning a press conference for September 3rd. I dearly hope they are taking appropriate measures to protect their safety. As I have noted several times in this blog, I believe the women. I read Katie Johnson’s affidavit, and it is brutal. She is not making this up. I provide the link for verification, but again, it’s brutal. I read it so you don’t have to.
5. The highest rate of farm bankruptcies happened in 2019. Remember who was president? They are rising again in 2025. Trump tariffs, and tariff retaliation, interest rates, the loss of USAID and SNAP. Not to mention climate change, which Trump calls a hoax (because everything he doesn’t like is a “hoax). Oh, and Trump deporting farm labor and scaring the begeezus out of the ones not deported (yet). All of these conditions make it super easy for the giant farms, whose lobbyists write the rules to swoop in and gobble the small ones up. This is how it works. This is how small family farms die. (Farm Policy News, American Farm Bureau Federation, Marketplace.org)
And yet most farmers voted for him three times and would again if given the chance because the Republicans intentionally scare them to death with social issues that will never affect them.
6. Speaking of, remember last week when DeSantis had the rainbow sidewalk removed (in the dead of night) from outside the Pulse nightclub? This was a memorial to the 49 people who were killed in a mass shooting there. Protestors repainted it and once again, in the middle of the night, DeSantis had it repainted. Well now there are armed police making sure no one repaints it. (Yahoo News)
7. Did you know that there are significantly more Democrats in Texas than Republicans? I’m sure voter apathy is a factor (because it seems hopeless). But the reason it feels hopeless is vote suppression tactics and gerrymandering (cheating in other words) that keep that state red. And this is why we can’t have nice things. (Below is your reminder of how gerrymandering works)

8. Doom-scrolling break – Here is my guy on Threads who brings the good news.
9. A very good point from Robin Reed on Threads. “My friend in Australia just asked me, “So Trump is sending your troops to 19 cities, and you all don’t think that it’s a military coup? What drugs y’all taking?” This country has been underreacting for 10 years. Those of us who have been sounding the alarm are called hysterical (and not in a funny way).
10. Last week Trump said he likes the idea of starting a war so he can declare no more elections and stay in office forever. This week he said “a lot of people want a dictator.” And the people who love him because he “says what he thinks” will tell you that’s not what he meant. They will say he is just joking – but he always tells on himself because he wants you to think he’s smarter than you. Remember his comment about Musk and “the vote-counting machines”? Or saying multiple times to his based during the campaign, “in four years you won’t have to vote again. We’ll have it so fixed you won’t have to vote again”. (the comment is at the 51 second mark) YIKES! Also, your friendly reminder that Kamala was right about everything.

11. Trump on deploying the National Guard to Chicago: "I have the right to do anything I want to do. I'm the president of the United States." I don’t do math much but I can still recognize a pattern.
12. They just can’t leave Kilmar Abrego Garcia alone. Now DOJ wants to deport him again, but this time to……..Uganda. They refuse to just take the loss and move on. The cruelty is the point.
13. The irony of Trump’s DOJ raiding John Bolton’s house looking for “classified documents” is really something. Yes, that’s a toilet next to the documents. It’s a bathroom. A bathroom.
(In yellow are all of the places Trump had classified documents. The next photo is a bathroom at Mar-a-Lago)

14. More Trump rambling weirdness this week: “I have friends they leave their trunk open to their car, because they don't want the trunk ripped off, they leave the doors open so when they go in to steal the radio, they don't rip off the door. I have another friend, in order to save his garage door, he leaves it open.” Wut?
15. A whistle-blower says Trump’s DOGE uploaded the entire Social Security database to a vulnerable server — exposing the personal info of hundreds of millions of Americans. (NYT, Guardian, ABC News, MSNBC, The AP). SOME OF US SAID THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING. Also, Musk cost the government about as much as he “says” he saved. (CNN, Politico, CBS News) But the real cost is in jobs lost, lives lost, cancer research cuts, USAID, etc. etc. etc. to infinity.
16. Trump’s cabinet meetings are so bloody embarrassing. They way he makes them fawn over him. Ugh. And you know he makes them do it. It’s too damn weird to be spontaneous. Also, it happens at every meeting. Kim Jon Un must be giggling while shouting, “now that’s how you do it!”
17. Donald Trump has assumed full federal control of Washington DC's Union Station and has taken it over from Amtrak. Oddly, no anguished cries of “socialism!” from the right.
18. Yet another mass shooting in which Rs will send their “thoughts and prayers” and do nothing else.
19. Good point.

20. Trump is getting rid of actual scientists and researchers at the CDC and putting Robert F. Brainworm Kennedy in charge. (BBC, The Guardian, NBC News). Look, he is a nut job. Really. Trump only nominated him for HHS because of he and his base obsession with “owning the libs”. His “retribution tour” is being carried out in many ways and in all areas of government. People are going to die but hey, they sure showed us libs? RFK as head of HHS, hilarious amiright?
21. Trump is gutting the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. You know, the only agency protecting you from predatory bank practices. (Uncle Rod) From Heather Cox Richardson "Last week, as the Trump administration prepared to fire nearly 90% of the workforce of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, virtually all pending matters flagged by bank examiners were simply closed without action." Well, I mean, someone has to protect the big banks, y’all.
22. Robert F. Brainworm Kennedy has never asked for, or received, a briefing from the CDC on the measles, COVID, the flu. (The Hill, WaPo). You guys, this is what people do when they are ruled by ideology and not data. If he really cared about do a good job at HHS he would ask for these briefings. He could listen and still make up his own mind. But he doesn’t want actual scientists refuting what he really wants to believe. Like Trump, he likes the thoughts in his own head best, regardless of any evidence to the contrary.
23. Can you imagine being a child and having masked men violently rip you away from your parents? Especially when your father was at the COURTHOUSE RENEWING HIS DOCUMENTS when it happened.
24. Twelve red states opted out of the 2024 SUN Bucks summertime grocery benefits program. This program provides eligible school-aged children with $120 in grocery benefits during the summer when school meals aren’t available.
25. I just can’t even.
26. “The Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium, an association of 16 academic centers and children’s hospitals dedicated to trials of novel treatments for pediatric brain cancer, directed its members last week to stop enrolling new patients because it had been informed that the consortium would not be eligible to apply for funding beyond March 2026, said Dr. Ira Dunkel, a pediatric oncologist who is the chair of the group.” The Trump Admin is cutting all funding for the consortium.
27. Trump is deploying NG troops to American cities. That’s bad enough. But did you know that he has them on a 29-day cycle because at 30 days they are eligible for full housing and healthcare benefits?
28. Um. Wut?
In the words of Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton, "So what did I miss?"
