Hello Congress? Anybody there? Anyone at all?.............Can you hear me now? (is this thing on?)

Here goes...
THIS IS A BILLION ALARM FIRE. (YES, I'M USING LOTS OF CAPS, BOLD, AND RED.)
(Look, everyone understands that Maduro is trash. But that is NOT the point.)
1. Trump used OUR military to attack Venezuela – a sovereign nation, kills over 40 people (plus 115 people in the boats he blew up), physically removes the leader, says HE will decide who the leader of the country can be, decided we are going to “run” the country indefinitely, and take back “our” oil.
(As an aside, Maria Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader who recently won the Nobel Peace Prize (and even thanked Trump in her speech) seems an obvious choice for leader. But Trump ruled her out. I'm sure it's not because, well, SHE won the prize, so...)
New York Times Editorial Board
“The self-proclaimed peace president is showing that American warfare, once contemplated and debated, is now an almost daily expectation. Since returning to the White House not quite a year ago, Mr. Trump has authorized U.S. forces to launch airstrikes or night raids across Yemen, Iran, Somalia, Nigeria, Iraq, Syria and now Venezuela.”
“Now we’re watching a president seem to unilaterally decide on regime change. It is illegal, it is antithetical to the democratic process, and it’s another example of Mr. Trump misleading the American people about his true intentions.”
“Last year Republicans blocked a bipartisan Senate resolution that would have legally prevented Mr. Trump from engaging in direct conflict with Venezuela. This was a mistake. “
OUR CONSTITUTION IS FISH WRAP IF CONGRESS, PRIMARILY REPUBLICANS, WILL NOT DO THEIR BLOODY JOBS.
And if our Constitution is fish wrap, none of us have ANY rights. Does everyone get that?
Who is going to stop Trump from taking Greenland or Panama – which he has expressly stated he wants to do?
And if all of that were not bad enough, if you were wondering if soldiers will follow illegal orders, we now have the answer! A definite yes. Apparently some generals will too. The ones who would not follow illegal orders have either resigned or have been fired.
The NYT Editorial Board followed that up with this: Trump’s Attack on Venezuela Is Illegal and Unwise
“The Constitution requires Congress to approve any act of war. Yes, presidents often push the boundaries of this law. But even Mr. Bush sought and received congressional endorsement for his Iraq invasion, and presidents since Mr. Bush have justified their use of drone attacks against terrorist groups and their supporters with a 2001 law that authorized action after the Sept. 11 attacks. Mr. Trump has not even a fig leaf of legal authority for his attacks on Venezuela.”
As an aside, I think it is hilarious that Rubio and Trump’s excuse for not telling congress is that they might leak – while standing right next to national security threat and chronic leaker of classified information, Pete Kegseth.
2. Aside from the absolutely crushing Constitutional nullifying crisis we are experiencing as a country, Matt Davis on Threads says it very well;
“If this is your first unprovoked U.S. attack on a country for their oil, here are a few tips:1. Whatever the gov says is the reason, isn’t. 2. It will become a protracted conflict. 3. The news will be incapable of questioning whether the U.S. should or should not be there and will only report on events. 4. Many people from the U.S. and from Venezuela will die. They will downplay this. 5. The media will cover these deaths as if no one is responsible.6. Your representatives will mostly do nothing. They will accept it, & then campaign for donations over nuance 7. All the above will cover up crimes throughout. 8. 20 years from now you will read about how it was a lie for a private transfer of wealth, and absolutely no one will seek to hold anyone involved accountable. 9. This will be funded by an explosion of debt & that debt will be justification for ending domestic programs that benefit you 10. In that time, it will probably happen again.”
3. There has been ongoing investigations into childcare centers in Minnesota. Gov. Walz Administration has been involved. There are accusations of fraud and not meeting health and safety the standards set by the state. And while the biggest ringleader – accused of 250 million in pandemic fraud charges – is a white woman (Aimee Bock – and what a piece of work she is), many of the employees of the childcare centers are Somali. So of course, Trump uses that as another excuse to be a racist prick while at the same time blaming Gov. Walz and Biden when in fact both administrations investigated, charged and convicted many individuals for this fraud.
An official Whitehouse account shared an AI, Pixar-style cartoon video demonizing Somalis. It’s disgusting.
4. Remember all of those cuts to NOAA? This week I was informed by the company that removes snow from my work site that they are finding NOAA forecasting – something they rely on heavily, is no longer reliable. Great. Just great.
5. Trump just used his first veto on a clean drinking water project in Colorado. This project was in Lauren Boebert's district. Boebert was one of the members who voted to release the Epstein files. Hey folks not only is it a no brainer that clean water should be a human effing right, especially in a country that can afford it, but now in the US, if your democratically elected representative pisses off Dear Leader you will be SOL (Mom, SOL means “shit out of luck”).
6. Once again showing the extreme disdain they have for our forefathers and our system of government. Also, quick question, whose “homeland” is it? Those of us not drunk on colonialism and racism see this for what it is.

And lastly, the word “homeland” is deliberate – similar to calling the press the “enemy of the people”, or saying immigrants are Poisoning the blood or our country” or calling them “vermin” or an “infestation. This is ALL in-your-face Nazi language that Trump, Miller and the whole Administration uses regularly and deliberately. All of it enshrines the idea that this land belongs to “us” (and by us I mean white people), and everyone else is a threat.
7. While we are on the subject, here is a great history of the Holocaust timeline. See any similarities?
8. If all of this has not convinced you yet what our Government’s trajectory is - the Trump Administration is fully supporting the far right Neo-Nazi AfD party in Germany.
9. ICE has launched a $100 million “wartime” recruitment blitz, flooding social media, gun shows, and military-linked spaces to rapidly hire thousands of officers to expand mass deportations. Things are going to get much worse. Oh, and by the way, we can’t afford healthcare for all. Okay.
10. Jack Smith’s testimony was explosive. As I said last week, Jack Smith told the House Judiciary Committee that his team developed "proof beyond a reasonable doubt" that Trump took part in a criminal scheme to overturn the 2020 election.
The actual video was released. I’ll admit to being surprised because Republicans refused to have the testimony in public. I think the only reason they did is because Smith puts Cassidy Hutchins’s testimony in doubt. It is, nevertheless, very damning for Trump himself. Here is the full video.
11. This is an excellent analysis of how the Trump Administration has destroyed 60 years of progress in civil rights. Mainly by lying about what DEI is - that it is not about merit. This is false but they’ve done a great job of convincing white folks that black people are being promoted over white people with more qualifications simply because of their color. Abject, bald-face lie. But white folks fall for this crap really easily. The damage is immense.
12. Again “worst of the worst”. This Oregon couple was deported and forced to leave their toddler behind. They were simply working hard and trying to have a better life.
And don't come at me with, "but they were here illegally". So what? Look, once again, being here illegally is a misdemeanor. We don't take people's children away for misdemeanors. You have to have a massive, steaming pile of rancid bile for a heart to think this treatment is justified. "Worst of the worst"? Really?
Furthermore, don't came at me with, "they need to come here the right way", when the Trump Administration is deporting people from their citizenship ceremonies and has goals for denaturalizing American citizens. IT'S THE RACISM, AND CRUELTY IS THE POINT. Have you seen any Canadians that are here illegally shackled and deported without their children?

I remember when I used to love my country. I remember right after September 11 going to a Mariner's game with my Dad. They played the Ray Charles version of America the Beautiful and I hear sniffling. I look up and Dad is taking off his glasses and says, "I can't even look at the flag anymore (without crying). We were all so heartbroken.
I always had a deep skepticism about the motives and actions of our government, before and especially after 9/11, but I still loved my country, it's promise, it's potential - the "grand experiment". I always teared up at the National anthem. It all seems like a scam now when so many people are willingly accepting or openly hoping for, a dictatorship, a Christo-Fascist regime, open racism, an utter rejection of our Forefathers vision, for a lawless, corrupt, sadist of a president. It's hard to articulate the depth of the disillusionment, or the betrayal.
Excuse me while I go spend the rest of the day staring into the abyss.
