A sickening moral slum of an administration. George F. Will

Here goes...
1. ICE is showing up at citizenship swearing in ceremonies asking people what country they are from and if they say certain ones, they are being pulled out of line and deported. Yes, after “doing it the right way”, passing the test, and excitedly going to the swearing in, Trump’s Gestapo arrests them. (AOL.com, BBC, Herman Legal Group)
Trump Admin is literally cancelling citizenship ceremonies. Citizenship takes about 5 years and approximately $10K. This is obscene.
2. A Sickening Moral Slum of an Administration, by Conservative scholar George F. Will. This is an excellent (and short) article. I highly recommend it.
It is also not lost on me that there is a paywall and that paywall supports the billionaire who owns the paper (WaPo) and has, in truly sickening fashion, cozied up to Trump before and after the election. You can get a free version if you give them your email. It is quoted in many other articles as well.
3. US manufacturing has been contracting for 9 straight months.(Reuters, WSJ)
4. For the first time in 25 years, child mortality rates for preventable diseases will increase. (Time, Gates Foundation, NPR)
5. In Trump’s continuing misogyny toward female journalists - to ABC's Rachel Scott: "You are the most obnoxious reporter in the whole place. Let me just tell you -- you are an obnoxious-- a terrible reporter. And it's always the same thing with you. I told you." She’s brilliant and she had asked him about the military assaults on boats in the Caribbean. (Fox)
6. Dozens of the J6 rioters that Trump pardoned had violent criminal records, and the Justice Department knew it. (NPR)
7. In this week’s edition of Why is JD Vance Such an Asshole?, Vance says “'They don’t speak the same language that I do,’” Vance said.... “It is totally reasonable and acceptable for American citizens to look at their next-door neighbors and say, ‘I want to live next to people who I have something in common with. I don’t want to live next to four families of strangers.’ And the fact that we had an immigration system that actually promoted that division is a real, real disgrace.” Look, smart people like hearing other languages. Decent people don't judge others for the language they speak. The pettiness is really something.
8. People with Down Syndrome made a video this week pleading with the President of The United States of America to stop using the word “retarded”.
9. New 4 year study on COVID vaccines just dropped: • 28 million participants followed • 74% lower risk of death due to severe COVID • 25% reduction in all-cause mortality • No increase in all-cause mortality when excluding COVID deaths. (JAMA, NIH)
10. Trump now says that the farmer bailout wouldn’t be possible without the tariffs. "We're giving some up to the farmers because they were mistreated by other countries," Trump said. He said the tariffs are “making farmers rich”. (Yahoo Finance) Wait, what? Everyone understands how insane that is, right?
11. “That should never happen. I am absolutely appalled,” the judge said. “That needs to go all the way up the chain. We do not treat people this way, period, and I mean that.
“We are all working to make sure that a system that has been flooded unnecessarily in a crisis without preparation is still going to hold onto the principles of dignity, respect, the rule of law and the humane treatment of people,” Aiken said. “We are not some of those other countries that do not respect and treat people in our custody the way she’s just been treated. I will not tolerate it.”
U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken after a 22 year old female ICE detainee was brought to court and the judge found out she had not been given food.
12. Oh hey, Arlington Texas just voted that it is okay to discriminate against people who are LGBTQ. The first state in the country to do it. Congratulations Arlington! You came in first. You must be so proud.
13. Doomscrolling break. Gosh I love this.
14. So, the Trump Administration has seized a Venezuelan oil tanker. They say it’s because it was carrying sanctioned oil. You can’t believe anything this Administration says so who knows, but regardless, it shows that in fact the military can seize a huge tanker without killing anyone and thus, can easily seize a 15-foot boat – to check for drugs - without killing people – you know, like we have been doing for decades.
15. The government stopped using the font Times New Roman in favor of Calibri a few years ago because the latter was proven to be easier to read for people with certain disabilities. Marco Rubio decided assisting people with disabilities is way to “woke”, so is demanding the government switch back to Times New Roman.
16. World Soccer Federation FIFA, gave Trump its first inaugural “Peace Prize” (hahaha, snort, excuse me…) Please, this is so dumb. Everyone knows Trump pines away for the Nobel (and in no way deserves any such thing). It’s all just so silly. Except that shortly after this illustrious prize was awarded, we found out that the Trump DOJ had dropped the criminal case against Hernan Lopez, “a former Fox employee who was convicted of participating in a scheme to bribe FIFA officials to secure broadcasting rights to the World Cup and other top soccer matches, as well as the company involved in the scandal.”
Below is what the trophy looks like. The inspiration must be Night of the Living Dead. Yikes.

17. “Where is Antifa located?” Hahaha
18. The U.S. is on track to lose $12.5BN in international visitor spending this year, a 22.5% decline. The U.S is the only country among 184 economies analyzed to see a decline in 2025.” (World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC)) Gosh if we could just figure out why this is happening…..
19. Republican leaders as well as the Heritage Foundation have tried real hard to strong-arm the Indiana legislature. Threatening that the entire state will be defunded if they do not obey Trump by gerrymandering their state. “Roads will not be paved. Guard bases will close. Major projects will stop.”
20. GOOD NEWS ALERT: Indiana said screw you! Just a reminder – gerrymandering is, in fact, cheating. Can we please stop normalizing cheating? We are at a point where states like California think they have to counteract Republican gerrymandering, by gerrymandering. And I don’t blame them because the stakes are so high. At least California put it up to vote of the people. But neither side should be doing it.
21. Speaking of – In this weeks’ bonus edition of Why is JD Vance Such an Asshole? Here he is stating how very, very dishonest it is to NOT cheat.
