New York's finest telling ICE to get lost.

Ginger

12/7/20256 min read

Have I mentioned how much I love New Yorkers?

Here goes...

1. A Thanksgving message from Department of Homeland Security, and a response from Gavin Newsome.

2. At least 3 pregnant women have died because of Texas abortion laws. Look, I respect people who are honestly, morally conflicted or opposed to abortion (and I’m not going to fight anyone about that). But surely we can all agree that women with complicated pregnancies should be treated and doctors should not fear providing treatment because of laws written and passed by people who are not doctors.

3. Chief Data Officer for the Social Security Administration has resigned. (apparently this happened in August, but I am just seeing it now.) It’s actually terrifying to think of what the Trump Administration is doing both to SS and also with our personal data. Read his letter here. (Politico, CBS News)

“In his whistleblower complaint, Borges said DOGE employees built a copy of the Social Security database in a cloud-based system that “circumvents oversight,” and disregarded an agency security assessment that their action posed a high risk.”

4. In Trump’s continuing efforts to pardon (on in this case, comuting) the worst people in the world, this week it was David Gentile, former CEO and co-founder of GPB Capital. This guy stole $1.6 billion from 10,000 people in an investment fraud scheme. Not only was is sentence commuted, but he doesn’t even have to pay the restitution. (Newsweek, Politico, NYT)

"More than 1,000 people submitted statements attesting to their losses, according to prosecutors, who characterized the victims as “hardworking, everyday people,” including small business owners, farmers, veterans, teachers and nurses.

“I lost my whole life savings,” one wrote, adding, “I am living from check to check.” (NYT)

5. Trump also pardoned Joseph Schwartz, the New Jersey nursing home magnate convicted in a $38 million fraud scheme. (Arkansas Times, AP News)

6. Venezuela has formally submitted a letter to OPEC claiming the United States is attempting to seize their oil reserves through military force. (MSN, Al Jezeera, Euronews)

7. Oh hey guess what, German military hit a boat and then when they saw survivors killed them all. They were tried for war crimes in Britain and executed by firing squad. Yes, killing helpless survivors is a war crime. It’s murder. It’s also some sick twisted shit. (Daily Kos, UBoat.net)

Also, back in 2016 Kegseth was clear that soldiers should not follow illegal orders.

8. Meanwhile Pete Kegseth, National Security Threat and Secretary of Relentless Dumb-Assery is posting stuff like this. Nazi-level dehumanization. These are the most despicable people on earth.

Also, back in 2016 Kegseth was clear that soldiers should not follow illegal orders.

One more thing. Listen to someone from the Navy who used to do drug interdiction in the Eastern Pacific talk about how it was done and why it was done that way.

9. Comparing him to…ehem… Jesus...wih the Loaves and Fishes story. Nope, not cult-like behavior at all. Not at all. Also, hunger is not at an all time low.

10. 1. Doomscrolling break: In 1998 Pavarotti was supposed to song the magnificent Nessun Dorma (Puccini) at the Grammy’s. Well he got sick. He knew that Aretha Franklin knew the song and would be there so he asked if she could sing in his place – a wildly different singer and performance that Pavaroti’s would have been. Have to love him for that. It’s wonderful.

11. Kristi – Puppy Killer – Noem, gives another fine example of statesmanship and public service. (“Deplorables” was generous.)

12. In the middle of the night this week there was a point at which Trump had posted on Truth Social 150 times.

13. Trump on Somalia: "With Somalia, which is barely a country, you know, they have no, they have no anything. They just run around killing each other. There's no structure."

Trump on Somalis in Minnesota: "I don't want them in our country, I'll be honest with you," he said during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Trump said the US would "go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country". “Somalia stinks and we don’t want them in our country.” “We could go one way or the other, and we’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country,”

Trump on House Rep Illhan Omar (Somali American). “She’s garbage. Her friends are garbage.”. “I always watch her,” Trump said, saying she “hates everybody. And I think she’s an incompetent person. She’s a real terrible person.” Trump has repeatedly accused Omar of marrying her brother in order to gain citizenship in the US. This is BS of course."They have a representative, Ilhan Omar, who they say married her brother. It's a fraud. She tries to deny it now but can’t really deny it, cuz yeah just happened.”

(Newsweek, Times of India, MSN, NY, Yahoo News)

14. I’ll leave my weekly rant about how effed up American Capitalism is to this short, heartbreaking interview. (I really hope he didn’t vote for - you know who).

15. In this week’s edition of Grifters and Their Marks, If you invested $12,000 in Melania Trump’s meme coin scheme 11 months ago, you now have $118. (The Guardian, Yahoo, Forbes)

16. Trump opened his cabinet meeting blasting reporters for questioning his stamina. And then he fell asleep. (NYT, San Francisco Examiner)

17. Can’t argue…

From Kelly Izaj on Threads, “They voted for him because they believed that he could give them the Christian nation they wanted. As a result, they sold their birthrights as Americans for the bowl of soup called political power and found themselves worshiping the Golden Calf of Christian Nationalism.”

18. We lost 32,000 jobs in November (and the Administration refuses to report October). (CNBC, ADP)

19. Whoooooeeeee, National Security Threat, Pete Kegseth’s “Signalgate” is worse than we knew. Much worse. (NYT, The Atlantic, PBS)

“The report noted that the information that Hegseth sent — the quantity and strike times of manned U.S. aircraft over hostile territory about two hours to four hours before those strikes — “created a risk to operational security that could have resulted in failed U.S. mission objectives and potential harm to U.S. pilots. “If this information had fallen into the hands of U.S. adversaries, Houthi forces might have been able to counter U.S. forces or reposition personnel and assets to avoid planned U.S. strikes,” the report said.”

20. The Trump administration on Tuesday rescinded a Biden-era rule that required a minimum number of healthcare staff in nursing homes. Great. That’s just great. Have they made one move since January 20 that actually helps anyone? Or better yet, doesn’t hurt people?

21. RFK Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Sacrifice, has an advisory vaccine committee full of his own hand-picked “advisors”. This committee just scrapped the universal hepatitis B shot for newborns — a policy that’s been in place since 1991 and cut childhood hep B infections by over 95%. (Reuters, BBC)

22. So your tax dollars are literally being used to make propaganda videos. Loomer and Geatz? Really? Similar to Kristi Noem’s tarmac commercial – a $200 million ad campaign thanking Trump and lying to immigrants “…here, download this HHS app, it’ll be fine, no really…”

23. The Trump administration sent Head Start employees a six-page list of "prohibited words" for grant applications, including terms like: disabilities, tribal, Black, and women. The ACLU is suing.

24. SCOTUS has formally okayed racial gerrymandering. They will tell you that is not what they did, but it is. (Minnesota Lawyer)

25. In which Donal J. Trump starts a sentence with, “If I were to remove this shirt..."

The full quote: “If I took this shirt off, you would see a beautiful, beautiful person. But you would see wounds all over. I’ve taken a lot of wounds. More than I suspect any other president.”
