"Oh, do you think he was referring to you?"

Here goes..
1. The President of the United States of American just openly being a vile racist. I am no fan of Candace Owens, but come on.

2. So, as you know, there was an alleged assassination attempt on Trump at the Whitehouse correspondence dinner. I am not going to comment on whether it was real or not. There is a lot going on there.
But I think it is notable that the immediate reaction from almost everywhere was skepticism. Either skepticism or just apathy. No one really cared. And then Trump immediately (and nonsensically) made it about getting that ballroom that the courts have (at least temporarily) blocked (which frankly, made it look more suspicious).
This guy says it best.
3. Trump may get his stupid ballroom. But look at this ridiculous, truly unhinged legal affidavit he and his lawyer submitted. They reference TDS(!). It’s basically a long Truth Social post.
“…because it is DONALD J. TRUMP, a highly successful real estate developer, who has abilities that others don't, especially those who assume the Office of President, this frivolous and meritless lawsuit was filed.”
4. I’ve always liked Norah O'Donnell. Can we get a little more of this energy from reporters please?
(snort “so you think he was referring to you…” )
5. Iran flew a 67-year-old F-5 fighter jet through US air defenses and bombed Camp Buehring base in Kuwait. “…despite the base having air defenses, a rare breach that marked the first time an enemy fixed-wing aircraft has struck an American military base in years.” This happened in February and we are only finding this out now.
6. In which RFK expresses concern that we are losing the medical research and advancement edge to China…………..after drastically cutting funds for scientific research and gutting the CDC and NIH.
6. The White House posted this.

7. Oh, and this…

He also declared that the war is over so...
8. I’ve mentioned this before but it bears repeating. The Trump Administration is trying to extort Zambia’s rare minerals by withholding HIV/AIDS funding and programs.
9. “Both sides…”. Amiright?

10. Newly obtained documents show a clear paper trail of Trump administration officials planning to share sensitive voter data with an outside political group trying to overturn elections, as part of a secret agreement. This is excellent reporting by Marc Elias, the hero lawyer who won 60 some election cases against Trump after his 2020 loss.
11. It gets worse though, they are also going after state voter data and red states are cooperating.
12. The Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act this week with it’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais. I’m still trying to understand it all. But so far the takeaway for me is that SCOTUS seems to be saying yes, in fact, racial gerrymandering is illegal (even when trying to redress racial gerrymandering that has benefitted whites for a generation) while making it almost impossible to prove a map was racially based intentionally, but that partisan gerrymandering is fine. This seems crazy to me but I’m still reading. I may have more to say about this next week.
As an aside, apparently all six conservative justices dined with Trump and King Charles and Camilla the night before the ruling. The liberal justices were not invited to dinner. That’s just effed up.
13. Trump speaking about Somalia and Rep Omar in this speech is just so disgusting.
14. The national debt just exceeded 100% of GDP for the first time since 1946.

15. This is big. Per CNN, “Iranian strikes were extremely accurate and caused major damage to most U.S. military bases. At least 16 American sites are badly hit and basically out of action. The Pentagon is keeping quiet about what looks like a huge setback.”
They are lying to us about how the war is going and frankly, I think there is a good chance they are lying about the number of American casualties.
16. I’ve mentioned this several times, probably because my dad was a farmer and I am particularly interested in it, but farm bankruptcies under Trump have been catastrophic in BOTH his first term and now.

And of course, most of them would vote for him again if they could. That’s the crazy part. Someday soon I am writing a long piece about how successful the Right wing has been at getting regular Republicans to vote against their own interests – time and time again. It’s fascinating, and tragic.
21. Doomscrolling break. Because I could not stop giggling about Tim Conway in last week's doomscrolling break - I am going back to the well.
