"It's okay dude, I'm not mad at you..."

Ginger

Here goes...

1. This is straight-up Nazi propaganda (and it's real).

2. The children of Minnesota law makers Melissa and Mark Hortman – gunned down in their homes in July - felt the need to pen a letter pleading with Trump to stop sharing misinformation about their deaths. Trump shared a conspiracy video claiming Governor Walz and the childcare fraud (for which Trump has demonized all Somalis) was somehow linked to the murders. Of course, as always, there is zero evidence of this. Trump is just being a jackass and sowing hatred and discord in the country – his favorite hobby.

3. The anniversary of the January 6 riots came and went with Republican lawmakers once again spewing easily debunked garbage about J6 being a peaceful protest. I was incandescent with rage all day because of the ridiculous gaslighting, the idiots who willingly fall for it, the 140 capitol police officers that were injured, and the damage to our democracy.

4. If you don’t think this was a well-planned insurrection, just read the affidavit for Stewart Rhodes, founder of the far right Oath Keepers. Here is a snippet.

Here you download the entire file (PDF).

This IS JUST ONE of the players. And remember, Trump pardoned them ALL. Even the ones convicted of beating officers. Oh how surprised I was to learn dozens of the convicted J6 rioters have been arrested and convicted of violent crimes since.

The gaslighting is – again – Nazi-level. This is Rep. Mike Collins. Not a single word of it is true. It’s, for lack of a better word, Bonkers.

He pardoned them all. Not just the violent ones. I'm pretty sure you know that, Mike.

5. More mind-blowingly batshit crazy slop from Trump, “TRANSGENDER FOR EVERYONE!”

“"Transgender for everyone! Bring your kids in, we're gonna change the sex of your child. Just send them our way. In some cases, like in Minnesota, they don't even tell the parents. Nobody believes it when I say it. They operate on the kid, they don't tell the parents. It's not believable."

Guys, this is the President of the United States of America.

6. You know what is funny about Trump and Republicans in leadership doing regime change in Venezuela, and now talking about “fixing” Cuba, Panama, Mexico, taking Greenland etc? Well, nothing is funny about it, except how well (not) this post aged.

You don't say Stephen...

7. In this week’s edition of Why is JD Vance Such an Asshole”, Here he states explicitly what the goal of regime change in Venezuela was: JESSIE WATTERS, Fox News Interview: Taking out a dictator in Venezuela -- how does that help the average American? JD VANCE: First of all, what it means is we're gonna be able to control the incredible natural resources of Venezuela.”

Just saying the quiet part out loud as they say. They so pine away for our colonizing past they want to bring it back. Just invade other countries that have stuff we want and rob them blind. Because why? Because we can!

And we’ve got right wing media our there reassuring Trump supporters that no one got killed in the raid in Venezuela. Except that, in fact multiple sources report that over 100 people were killed – soldiers and innocents. (CNBC, Reuters, BBC) Even Trump confirmed it. Not that you can believe a word he says but in this case he’s proud of it so…

8. While Wednesday had me in a blind rage over the J6 gaslighting, the murder of Renee Good on Thursday gutted me – and millions of others here and around the world. I will never get over the video of Becca screaming and running for the crashed car after watching masked goons shoot her wife in the face.

Renee Good’s last words, “It’s okay dude, I’m not mad at you…” followed up by Jonathan Ross, the shooter, calling her a “fucking bitch” and then the goons refused to allow medical aid. One of them saying “I don’t care” after a man asked if he could render aid and identified himself as a physician. “I don’t care.”

I am not going to spend a lot of time here explaining why I believe this was murder. Watching the video from every angle multiple times, listening to dozens of legal experts from multiple legit sources, it is very clear to me what this was. I will spend more time on Trump and other republicans in leadership’s response.

a. Immediately after the shooting Trump posted this. The heinousness of this message speaks for itself. But I must say, even the presidents of the past who I hated the most would have sent a message of calm, urged people to wait for an investigation before drawing conclusions.

As an aside, it’s kind of funny, quaint really, how messed up I was over the Bush presidency (both) back in the day.

b. ICE goons were filmed kicking over candles placed as memorials where Good was shot and then harassing mourners. At this point the argument that there are a ”few bad apples” among the “officers” is laughable. There are way (way) too many of these kinds of sociopath-like acts that are verified through video, and administration officials defending them no matter what they do. As they say, it’s not a bug, it’s a feature. These are the kind of men they are recruiting.

c. The DOJ is refusing to cooperate with local officials in the investigation. This is unheard of and wreaks of coverup.

d. Kristi – Puppy Killer – Noem claimed that Good had been following ICE around all day – “stalking them”. Interesting because the shooting happened at 9:30 am. But it must be stated, even if she did, in a civilized society we don’t shoot and kill someone for that. Further – without any evidence, she claimed Renee and Becca Good were “domestic terrorists”. Surely we can all agree how irresponsible this is. No one should be doing this. How does this help?

e. JD Vance called Renee Good a deranged leftist. Again, before anyone knew anything about her (a bonus edition of Why is JD Vance Such an Asshole?)

f. In a mind-boggling turn of events, Tucker Carlson, of all people, blasts GOP leadership for their reactions to Good’s death.

g. This Republican lawmaker in Wisconsin, Derrick Van Orden claimed that Renee Good “took the day off” presumably to harass ICE. Thankfully the reporter pushed back (which is rare these days) and asked him how he knew that. He stammers and says it was a Wednesday and that’s a workday and it’s not normal behavior for a Wednesday.

Wut? Everyone always works on Wednesday you guys. Everyone. It’s the normal thing to do. Does everyone understand how stupid this is? And this is what he chooses to focus on instead of what a tragedy that a young mom, who is a is citizen by the way, was killed by “law enforcement” (yes, I’m using the terms “law enforcement” or “officer” loosely.) I’m pretty sure if a woman is raped he asks what she was wearing.

Oh but guess what!?!? Here is the best part, the January 6, 2021 insurrection happened on a……WEDNESDAY!! And he was one of the participants.

You can try to tell me I’m only highlighting on the worst comments by a few dumbasses. Except these comments are coming from virtually all of the GOP in leadership from the President to the cabinet members and many GOP electeds.

h. And now the official death of irony: Trump is warning Iran this week not to shoot protestors who are out in great numbers this weekend.

i. Tom Homan “Border Czar” said today that the officer (Jonathan Ross) is not doing well and that we should all wait until the investigation is completed before passing judgement (after earlier this week suggesting what the women did was domestic terrorism – echoing Noem). Oh Hey! Tom, thank you for your sudden reasonableness. Great job. How about taking that message to the team captain and the rest of the cabinet members?

j. Hey folks, I am seeing a ton of frustration from women about the behavior of men - in this situation and frankly, the entire history of male behavior. Watching the way the ICE "officers" behave is very telling. There are a whole lot of survivors of domestic violence that are seeing echoes of it in the demeanor and behavior of these “officers” and the men who are defending it. Even women who are not DV survivors have experienced real fear of men. In the words of Margaret Atwood, "Men worry that women will laugh at them. Women worry that men will kill them."

I read a particularly eloquent post on Threads that really (really) resonated with women (including me). Women, when you read it you will feel seen and heard and in community with other women. Guys, please just read it and try to understand. Read it here.

9. A whole lot of us are grieving. Grieving for the 6-year-old that lost her mother, Becca who watched her wife get shot to death, for the response of our leaders and citizens on the Right, for the encroaching authoritarianism, and failure of our forefathers’ grand experiment of self-governance.

One thing that gave me a bit of a lift this week was all of the support I saw coming from other countries. On the one hand many of them are terrified and pissed that we haven’t been able to stop the madness. On the other hand, millions understand that we ourselves are horrified and feel like nothing we do helps.

I hope that even if you don’t have Threads you can see this post from Japan and scroll through the comments below it.

This was deeply meaningful to me also. A Black woman, an artist, painting Renee Good’s portrait at the sight of the shooting.

10. In other news – Trump wants Greenland. He just “wants it”. He says it is essential for our National Security. Why have I never heard a president obsess about the relationship Greenland has with our national security before?

Trump says we might buy it. He also says, like a mob boss, “we can do it the easy way or the hard way”. He’ll use military force if necessary and his freaking cabinet is cheering him on even though taking Greenland by force will likely end the NATO alliance. I don’t have time to explain here what a catastrophe that would be.

We have 3 military bases in Greenland and 4 more in the works. Denmark (Greenland is a Danish state) is an ally. If we just treated them like an ally I am sure they would cooperate with our national security concerns. But no friends. He just wants it.

I predict the following: if he goes through with this he’ll rename it Trumpland.

11. Folks, I can’t take anymore this week. (Stop the world, I want to get off.) So here is a doom scrolling break that I really love.

If you are like me you love you some early 1990's Janet Jackson (and seriously, if you don't, you should). Well, here is a guy (Blake McGrath) who does the Rhythm Nation dance sequence in a grocery story and I can't stop watching it. We are bombarded with the behavior of rotten people and we sometimes forget how bloody beautiful and awesome people can be.
